So many things have happened since the last time i posted here and hopefully i’ll have the time to update this space regularly.Meanwhile here’s a visual, though incomplete timeline of past events, label nights and miscellaneous stuff the past year or so.IMG_8913 221 FullSizeRenderFullSizeRenderIMG_8519IMG_8445 FullSizeRenderIMG_8277 FullSizeRender IMG_7565 FullSizeRender IMG_7503 IMG_7419 IMG_6152 IMG_6049 IMG_6006 IMG_6005 IMG_5921 IMG_5553 IMG_5526 IMG_5289 IMG_5287 IMG_1801 7107_Poster_11-14_HEART-RED

the long weekend

18 11 2009

A few weekends ago Up Dharma Down and Radioactive Sago Project did a couple of festivals and while it was memorable and fun, it was exhausting, especially for Radioactive Sago Project and myself with not much sleep from Cebu to HK, directly to the gig for Clockenflap. Radioactive Sago Project, by the way, stunned the mostly expat crowd and hip Hong Kong-ers.  Come to think of it, i’d do it all over again. It felt like i walked the Death March in WII but we had a great time at the gigs and afterwards. Thanks Justin!

Up Dharma Down wins plum awards during NU107Rock Awards’09

17 11 2009

Vocalist of the Year(Armi Millare),Album of The Year(Bipolar) and Artist of The Year…much to the consternation of those who don’t “get” Up Dharma Down and are still stuck to the old sound of Pinoy Rock wherein it has to be typical or “rakrakan” template prompting one seemingly disappointed old hack to report “low key” band wins big at the rock awards and went on to enumerate others without much focus nor fanfare for the big winner.

Sorry to disappoint you but if you give it an open mind you will realize that Bipolar and future albums that break away from the mold help us move into the modern rock world where boundaries are gone and the rock stereotype has been shattered.

The majority though, seems to think it’s a well deserved win so i am a happy camper. Thank you to those who have moved on, you forward thinking music people who voted for the future, the fans and supporters, to the judges who stuck to their guns in recognizing change , embracing and appreciating it. Also to NU107 for having the guts to turn it around and make the Rock Awards, still, the only bonafide award giving body for excellence in music.

lazy dog

10 02 2009

Got a bit lazy as well as preoccupied with a few matters the past week or so and haven’t really posted anything. I’m just going to shoot off a bunch of stuff that happened during downtime….

1.Had a blast with Pepi and my father at the PBA games last Sunday. Came in not really rooting for anyone but for some reason we all went with Talk & Text. Pepi ‘s first time to watch a professional basketball game at the Big Dome and first time to try Coca -Cola. Have not been to a PBA game in years. Last time was around 2002 when i brought Zion I to experience local ball. Just realized how much of an ideal activity it is and really had a good time. Thanks to Kathy G. for the complimentary tickets!

2.Deep Fried 5 at Route 196 was both a sleeper and fun. Lesser people than the last one in Saguijo but dancing the whole night(10pm-3am) and i had a great time mixing.  I’m not gonna complain. Some people came from a commercial club in Makati and we’re told there were about 20 people there so Deep Fried attendance was ok in comparison. Next one is in March,(Friday the 13th) at Sagujio.

3.Swissy bagging BEST ARTIST at the online polls for Junk Magazine Malaysia. CONGRATULATIONS!

4.Up Dharma Down had a successful video launch for “Taya” without much effort. Good video and thanks to Nic Reyes and Isaw Sa Kanto team.

5. Most of the Terno nights over at Saguijo,Route 196 etc have been quite good and well attended like a smaller scale version of the early Terno Au Go Go  series.

It’s 12:25 AM and i just got back from an outdoor gig but before that had a pleasant Thai dinner alone at  Jatujak. Great food and fast service. Had a hard time choosing  but settled on Tom Kha Gai and Pad Thai. Excellent.  Normally, the pictures would be the food in it’s complete uneaten state but i was so hungry i ate without taking pictures first so here’s the aftermath instead.tom kha Gai

Wipeout!. Great Thai Food. Fast. Excellent service.

terno infairness

15 11 2008

When i look back and reminisce about the Terno Au Go Go series from 2005-06. It makes me think of how good it was because it was held quarterly or just when we can. It could be two months in between or four. There were eight or nine i think, total with the one at the Adidas Sports Camp being the last. Every Au Go Go was something to look forward to for myself, the bands on the bill and the audience.

Nowadays, it’s become more of a routine, the monthly nights in various bars all over the metro. I had to adjust to the state of things and keep up with the times. For visibility, i had to do it frequently and it has its moments but lately it’s somewhat gotten better, even though it’s monthly and you don’t miss it as much.

I suppose, it’s good somehow for most people to know that they can catch their favorite band/s in a particular place every month and as long as they introduce more people to what they’re digging and bringing them to the gigs then it’s OK.

By the way, for those who are confused or weren’t around the early days of Terno, Au Go Go was the showcase night for ALL the Terno artists and some guests quarterly or whenever while the latter part,  Terno Inferno is basically, just a night featuring a revolving number of Terno artists and a guest once in a while that happens on a more regular basis. Monthly. There’s the original Inferno at Saguijo and it’s satellite nights in other venues like Route 196, Magnet Bonifacio High Street etc.

On that note there’s Terno Inferno TONIGHT the 15th of November @ Saguijo. terno-inferno-nov-15

Usually i do the Eflyers myself, when i can, but for this one Fran of Sleepwalk Circus volunteered to do the deed. THanks FRan! JOin us tonight…

and so it goes

3 11 2008

For those who want to catch UDD again, they will be performing at 70’s Bistro with Sleepwalk Circus this Wednesday the 5th at 10pm. Those who will buy the limited edition cds at this particular gig( we cannot sell at just any gig) will get in, free of the usual door at 70’s Bistro. Again, let me reiterate that the gig is a plus much like Hexagon’s but if, again, should the venue be full, we cannot do anything about it.

This is NOT the album launch part 2. It’s just a regular UDD gig at a QC venue wherein the best we could do is to have the venue, 70s’s Bistro waive the door if you purchase the limited edition cd.

There is another chance for those who don’t want to purchase anything or if you have already purchased the limited edition cd but would want to catch UDD since you weren’t able to get in during the launch. It is for free and it’s in a mall, Podium to be exact. It’s on the 14th of November. I really would want you to come and support the band on this date plus you get to see the newest Apple store in the country, the A Shop.

I think i might be spinning some tunes as well using, just an Ipod along with the latest Numark iDJ2, a nice toy to have if you really want convenience. As much as i’d like to bring vinyl or use Serato with turntables and my laptop, i think i’ll give this baby a whirl. Curious to see how it performs. Mark the date. 14th of November. 7pm as stated in the artwork below.

If you want the other version of this artwork click HERE

The regular version of Bipolar should be out 3rd or 4th week of November at all Astrovision, Odyssey, SM, Tower/M1 and Fully Booked branches. While waiting, get the brand new album of Ang Bandang Shirley already available at your favorite record stores as well as this year’s other Terno releases like Paramita’s sophomore album and Swissy’s debut.
